Praise the Lord for His mercy and grace!

Once again, from Little Round Top to yesterday’s voting booth, Maine
played a pivotal role in The American Civil War. First it was of
bullets, flesh and blood at Gettysburg. Today this culture war is “not
against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the
authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the
spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

Pastor Bob Emrich shared these two words of wisdom and encouragement via e-mail:

“Do not be afraid of them; remember the Lord who is great
and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives
and your homes.” (Nehemiah 4:14)

and…

Governor Joshua Chamberlain once wrote of the need to “to
devote the day to the serious duties it enjoins; that by meditation, penitence
and prayer, and recognizing our utter need of His saving power in Christ, we
may so humble ourselves before God, as to be spared the chastisement which our
sins deserve, and obtain the blessings of His grace upon ourselves, our
country, and our fellow men.” (Fast Day proclamation, April, 1867)

A friend of mine interviewed me as part of a project for a class she is taking at the University of Maine.

****
Do you feel minority group interests are represented within your community?
****

Yes!

The elected town leadership consists of mature, wise and responsible white men. Since it doesn’t matter what your skin color is, white men can do a very good job of representing people of color, and they do so here in Greene. Likewise, people of color can do a very good job of representing white people.

Now just because one’s skin color does not affect one’s ability to lead other people, doesn’t mean that you can have bad leaders that do not do a good job representing the interests of people who do not along to their so-called “people groups”. For example, I believe that Pres. Obama is doing a poor job as president. But I’ve noticed that other people who have publicly criticized the president appear to be labeled as racist simply because they disagree with the president. Every American knows that that sort of criticism is bigoted and unwarranted.

****
If you could resolve any inequities within your community, what would you change? How and why?
****

The most unjust in equity in our community also pervades all the communities throughout our great nation. It seems that most of our elected leaders over the last century have taken the children’s story “Robin Hood” a little bit too seriously. As a nation, we have made Robin Hood into a hero and this has begun to pervade our public policy.

You see, I believe that Robin Hood was a bad guy. He stole from the rich and gave to the poor. At first blush his work may seem like a noble pursuit, but theft is never noble, nor good. Robin Hood was a thief.

Robin Hood, like all thieves, effectively began his life of crime not by stealing something, but by coveting it. Before he broke into his first mansion and stole from the privileged gentry of Sherwood, Robin first rode his horse by that estate and lusted after his neighbor’s property. He must’ve thought to himself, “Wow. They’re rich. They must be snobs, and they certainly must have acquired their wealth unethically. It’s just not right nor is it fair for them to prosper as they have when there are so many people in the world who have less than what they have. Something’s got to be done about that. It’s just not fair.”

His crime started out as a crime of the eyes, or more accurately, a crime of the heart. Not satisfied with the blessings of his own life, he turned his desires towards his neighbor and his neighbors property. He thought he can justify his actions by forcibly redistributing his neighbors wealth to those that he thought deserved it more. He took it upon himself to be the arbiter of prosperity.

At the turn of the 20th century in the United States of America, our nation began a steady slide into this sin of covetousness. Many Americans began to think they deserved more than they had. Particularly, they began to covet their neighbors wealth and demanded that the government take that wealth away from their neighbor and give it to them instead. Today that has been labeled “redistribution of wealth”, but it really is simply, “theft”.

So when hard-working families have little left at the end of their paycheck after paying their bills, a significant contributing factor to the short supply of pocket change left over is the fact that there are people in our great country who still believe this lie. These thieves currently have political power and are able to forcibly take the fruits of one’s labor away and give it to someone else.

But I believe that there is a time coming in the near future where the folks who pay the taxes are no longer going to stand by and allow this mass theft continue.

Greene is a great place to live and raise a family. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else, except maybe for a few months in the winter. But the greatest inequity in our community has not been brought upon us by our elected selectmen, but rather a federal government that has grown out of control. Washington has lost its constitutional moorings, and is adrift in a sea of abuse of the people’s trust.

The remedy for this social inequity is simple. Rollback the changes made by the socialists (a.k.a. progressives) and restore the original limited constitutional government envisioned by our founding fathers. We can start by fixing our state government. We have a good opportunity to do some housecleaning in Augusta in 2010 by electing a new governor and Legislature.

Restoring limited constitutional government is necessary to preserve our liberty and our freedom which so many have given the ultimate sacrifice to protect. As a new grandfather I look at my grandson and pray that he will enjoy the freedoms that our family have enjoyed, but I’m not so sure he will unless good people rise up and just say “No!” to socialism in the United States.

It’s time to take our country back.
